ODS to Excel or CSV, no LibreOffice
You received an .ods file and your computer has only Excel — or no office suite at all. You can convert the table to .xlsx or CSV in the browser without installing LibreOffice.
Free for personal use. The file is not uploaded to a server. Windows version — 3.5 MB, no installation: details. Organizations: license.
Step by step
- Drag the .ods file into the app window. The first sheet opens; pick another one in the file parsing panel.
- If needed, narrow the rows down with a filter.
- Export → Excel, CSV, DBF, JSON or SQL.
Why numbers don't turn into text
An ODS cell has two values: what is displayed ($1.50) and what is actually stored (office:value="1.5"). The app takes the second one: the number 1.5 lands in the .xlsx, and sums and sorting work on it — not the string "$1.50".
Dates work the same way: the date is taken from the attribute and arrives in Excel as a date.
The million empty rows
ODS saves space: instead of a thousand empty cells it writes one with a "repeat 1024 times" mark, and it does the same with rows — all the way to the edge of the sheet. A program that expands the repeats literally creates a million blank rows and hangs on a table with three records. Here the trailing blank area is discarded.
What is not carried over
The data is: values, dates, text, sheets. Formatting — colours, fonts, column widths, conditional formatting — and formulas are not: from a formula the calculated value is taken.
FAQ
Can I save my edits back to .ods?
Yes. The file is rebuilt in the process: your data is kept, the formatting of the original is not.
How many rows can it handle?
The sheet content is parsed into memory, up to 256 MB unpacked; an export to .xlsx is subject to the format's limit of 1,048,576 rows.
