XLSB to XLSX or CSV
Google Sheets, many data-loading tools and reporting services do not accept .xlsb: they want .xlsx or CSV. You can convert the workbook in your browser — without installing Excel and without handing the file to an online converter.
Free for personal use. The file never leaves your computer — the conversion happens in the browser. Windows version — 3.5 MB, no installation: details. Organizations: license.
Step by step
- Drag the .xlsb file into the app window. The first sheet opens.
- If you need a different sheet, pick it in the file parsing panel.
- If you do not need every row, narrow them down with a filter or search: the export takes exactly what is on screen.
- Export → Excel (.xlsx), CSV, DBF, JSON or SQL.
What is preserved
- Dates go into .xlsx as dates; in CSV they are written in the format you choose.
- Codes with leading zeros (account numbers, ZIP codes, employee IDs) stay text.
- Numbers stay numbers, with no loss of decimal places.
- Formulas become their calculated values: .xlsb does not store formula text.
- Styling — colours, fonts, column widths — is not carried over; the data is.
Several sheets at once
Open the sheets you need one after another, each in its own tab, and in the Excel export dialog choose the option to export all open tabs: you get one .xlsx workbook with a sheet per tab.
FAQ
Why can't I just rename .xlsb to .xlsx?
It will not help: the contents are written in a different format. Excel will refuse to open such a file.
Is there a row limit?
An .xlsx sheet holds 1,048,576 rows, the same as the .xlsb original. CSV has no limit.
Can I convert .xlsb to DBF?
Yes: Export → DBF. JSON and SQL work the same way.
