Color scales and icons for numbers
A column of amounts holds thousands of values, and the eye cannot tell which are large and which suspiciously small. Excel has conditional formatting for that. Here the same works for any open file — CSV, DBF, XML, Parquet — and changes nothing in the file itself.
How to set it up
- Open a file and choose “Analysis” → “Color scales and icons…”.
- “Add rule”: pick a column and a kind — “color scale” or “icons”.
- For a scale pick the colors: red–yellow–green, white–blue and others. For icons pick a set (traffic lights, arrows, marks) and the boundaries as percentages of the range.
- “Apply”: the shading appears on the columns at once.

Good to know
- The range is the minimum and maximum of the column on screen. After a filter the scale stretches over the remaining rows: those are what gets compared.
- “Small is good” swaps colors and icons: for delays, returns, debts.
- The file does not change: it is only shading. Printing takes it along.
- You can have several rules, one per column; “Clear all” removes them at once.
FAQ
Is the shading saved in the file?
No, it lives on top of the table and is not kept between sessions: the file stays as it was. To show the colors, print the table — the shading is included.
Does it work on text columns?
No, only on numbers and dates: the scale is built from the size of the value.
Does the file go to a server?
No. Everything is computed in your browser tab.
